Press Release regarding recent structure fires in Alameda

Alameda Fire responded to two structure fires in the past five days.  Both fires were confined to the origin buildings, resulting in property damage and one injury.

Wednesday night, at 8:35 pm, crews responded to a reported residential structure on the 3200 block of Central Avenue. First arriving firefighters found a single-story dwelling heavily involved in fire.  Occupants were able to exit the building prior to the fire department's arrival.  Crews were able to extinguish the fire while protecting neighboring buildings.  There were no reported injuries.  The fire cause and origin are under investigation.  There were 21 firefighters that responded.  Oakland Fire covered in at vacant Alameda fire stations.

Sunday afternoon, at 12:28 pm, firefighters were notified of a fire in a two-story apartment on the 2600 block of Barbers Point Road.  Crews found fire inside an apartment on the first floor.  Occupants exited prior to the fire department's arrival.  Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, confining it to a portion of the single apartment.  An adult female was treated for a non-life threatening injury.  She was transported to an area hospital.  There were three people displaced from the apartment.  The cause was determined to be flame from an unattended candle in a downstairs bathroom coming in contact with combustible items.  There were 20 firefighters that responded.
