On October 22, 2017, at 12:50 a.m. Deputy U.B. Smith conducted a traffic stop on a Blue 2006 Mercury Mariner on US 41 near County Road 925 South. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Smith detected the odor of alcohol coming from the driver 60 year old Larry Pope of Evansville, Indiana. At that point Deputy Smith began a roadside investigation which resulted in Mr. Pope being transported to the Gibson County Jail. At the Gibson County Jail Mr. Pope was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (DUI.) He remains in custody on a $650 bond.
