Empty the Shelters
Press release
Cass County Sheriff Richard J. Behnke in association with Animal Control Director Ronald Butts is proud to announce that Saturday October 14th Bissell Pet Foundation “Empty the Shelters” sponsored event was a success!
As the second partnering with Bissell Pet Foundation began, the shelter was open to all who were in attendance wanting to spend some time with a cat or dog that they would potentially like to take home with them. Shelter staff worked with over 100 visitors during the 4 hour event overseeing the adoption of 18 animals finding their way into new homes.
In the week leading up to the event, according to visitors in the shelter, 6 pets finding new homes were due in part by the upcoming sponsored adoption event.
The Bissell Pet Foundation, based out of Grand Rapids MI, exists to assist animal welfare organizations. This includes helping to reduce the number of animals in shelters and rescues through pet adoption, spay/neuter programs, microchipping and foster care.
With the Bissell Pet Foundation picking up the tab for the events adoption fees, they also provided a limited supply of adoption packets to pet owners as well.
Despite the torrential rainfall, the day was a great success while visitors poured into the shelter. Nine dogs and nine cats were able to go home to their new “forever” homes Saturday.
