Advisory

IRS or government officials calling you? Beware of impostor scams!

Whatever the story is, the objective is all the same; wire money. We continue to receive calls from residents who are receiving calls from, "the IRS," (impersonators) demanding payment of taxes owed. The impersonator threatens to sue, arrest or deport you, or revoke your license if you don't pay right away. Often, the individual will tell you to put the money on prepaid debit cards and give he/she the numbers.

This is a reminder that the IRS will not initiate contact via email, text messages or phone to request personal, financial information or immediate payment, and they do not threaten taxpayers with lawsuits, imprisonment or other enforcement action. No government agency will ever ask you to wire money.
If you receive such a call, do not give them any information and simply hang up.
