San Mateo Police Officers are investigating a “Swatting” prank call we received this morning that caused a large police presence on the unit block of E 3^rd Avenue.
 
San Mateo Police Dispatch received a call from a male around 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 9^th, reporting that he saw two males with guns and masks enter a business in the unit block of E. 3^rd Avenue. Officers quickly arrived and secured the area by shutting down vehicle and pedestrian traffic on E. 3^rd Avenue between El Camino Real and San Mateo Drive. Officers searched the business and found the report to be not credible. Additionally, employees advised our officers that business was functioning as usual and no reports were made.
 
Swatting is a prank call to 9-1-1 emergency services in an attempt send a large number of emergency personnel to a particular location based on a false report of a serious law enforcement emergency. 
 
San Mateo Officers are actively investigating this incident and into the identity of the caller. Anyone with information is asked to contact SMPD.
