Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that deputies of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle roll over on 10-08-17 at approximately 1504 hours at the intersection of Gage St and Atwood Rd. Investigations show that the vehicle driven by Tina Slate (59 year old of Decatur), was southbound on Atwood, there was a vehicle in front of Stale that was stopped at the stop sign. Stale was not slowing down according to witnesses, going around their vehicle, resulting in Stale’s vehicle going through the intersection, hitting a large embankment, and coming to a stop in a corn field about 200 feet off the road. Stale was extricated by Wayne Twp fire Dept and transported to Borgess Lee in Dowagiac by Pride Care Ambulance where Medflight picked the patient up from there transporting to Southbend Memorial. The vehicle’s airbags depolyed and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. This crash remains under investigation. Assisting agencies include Pride Care Ambulance, Wayne Township Fire Dept., Pokagon Tribal Police, and Medflight.
