On October 7, 2017 at 11:56 p.m. Deputy U.B. Smith observed a 2005 Dodge Van fail to use its signal when turning off of US 41 onto County Road 1250 South. Upon stopping the vehicle Deputy Smith identified the driver as 26 year old Stephen Hyatt of Mount Carmel, Illinois. While speaking with Mr. Hyatt Deputy Smith detected the odor of alcohol coming from the driver. At that point Deputy Smith began a roadside DUI investigation which resulted in Mr. Hyatt being taken into custody and transported to the Gibson County Jail. At the Gibson County Jail Mr. Hyatt was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (DUI.) He remains in custody on a $900 bond.
