On October 7, 2017, at 11:45 p.m. Special Deputy Tyler Martin stopped a Tan 2002 Buick passenger car on State Road 64 for speeding on State Road 57. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Martin detected the odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. At that point Deputy Martin began a roadside investigation into the source of the Marijuana smell. At the end of his investigation Deputy Martin placed the driver 53 year old Michael Benton into custody and transported him to the Gibson County Jail. At the Gibson County Jail Mr. Benton was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Methamphetamines, and Possession of Paraphernalia. Assisting Deputy Martin in his investigation was Deputy Ben Kiesel of the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Benton has since posted a $750 bond.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
