Crash Critically Injures 3 People

The South Brunswick Police Department is investigating a serious crash that critically injured 3 people Tuesday morning. The crash was reported at 6:31am at the intersection of  Stults Road and Herrod Boulevard. A 2016 Hyundai Elantra was traveling on north on Herrod Boulevard and 2013 Freightliner was headed west on Stults Road when the impact took place. The truck stuck the vehicle and pushed it into a culvert on the side of the road. The box truck came to rest on top of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, a 23 year old Union County woman and her three female passengers ages 17, 18, and 23 all from Mercer County were all trapped after the crash.

Georges Garage and Towing responded within minutes of the call with two heavy duty wreckers in order to lift the box truck off the trapped passengers in the car. The towing company worked with firefighters from Monmouth Junction, Monroe District #3, and Kendall Park Fire Departments to rescue the victims. The team had to stabilize the box truck, pull it off the vehicle, and use the Jaws of Life to free the trapped passengers.

Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, South Brunswick EMS, Monroe EMS, Cranbury EMS and New Jersey State Police medevac treated and transported the injured to the hospital. All were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.

All 3 passengers in the vehicle are listed in critical condition. The driver is in stable condition. The truck driver, a 36 year old man from Middlesex County was treated and released from an area hospital.

Police are withholding identification of those involved until family and relatives can be notified.
