Pedestrian Safety Ordinance

A newly adopted Pedestrian Safety Ordinance will go into effect in our city Monday, October 16. Our agency is actively engaged in an education campaign, which includes distributing the Pedestrian Safety Ordinance Brochure along with a copy of the ordinance. Until the ordinances effective date, only verbal warnings will be issued. Per the ordinance:

• Pedestrians are in violation if standing on median of a covered highway (covered highways listed in ordinance) or on a median of cross street within 200 feet of covered highway.

• Drivers are in violation if they stop to respond to a pedestrian in violation.

• Pedestrians on sidewalks and terrace are not in violation unless they are observed to approach a vehicle that stops and is not legally parked.

To learn more, see the attached brochure and ordinance.
