Weekend Car Stops Lead to Firearms Arrests
On September 22, 2017 at approximately 9:30pm, a Berkeley Police Patrol Officer stopped a Chevy in the area of 6th and Jones Streets for a vehicle code violation. During a search of the vehicle, unrelated to the initial vehicle code violation, the officer located a loaded firearm, underneath the driver’s seat. Further investigation revealed that the firearm had been reported stolen.
The officer arrested the driver, identified as Gerald Alderson, 31, of Sacramento for carrying a concealed firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of narcotics paraphernalia and possession of stolen property. Alderson was booked at the City of Berkeley Jail.
On September 24, 2017, at approximately 12:30am, another Patrol Officer stopped a vehicle in the area of Acton Street and University Avenue for a vehicle code violation. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, the officer located a loaded firearm on the floor, underneath the driver’s seat. When the firearm was inspected the officer learned that the serial number had been removed.
The officer arrested the driver, identified as Jalen Bryant, 22, of Oakland for carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm without identification mark. Bryant was booked at the City of Berkeley Jail.
