#LASD Crescenta Valley Station, Montrose Search and Rescue Team’s 70th Anniversary Fundraiser

On Sunday, September 24, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Montrose Search and Rescue (MSAR) Team hosted a fundraising event as part of their 70th Year Anniversary at Newcomb’s Ranch Restaurant located on Angeles Crest Highway at Mile Marker 50.93, Angeles National Forest.  The MSAR Team operates out of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station and is celebrating their 70th year of dedicated service to the citizens of Los Angeles County (1947 – 2017).

The team is a Sheriff Department approved registered California non-profit organization and independently raises funds to purchase needed vehicles and equipment.  On display at the event was the team’s new rescue truck which was built with private grant money at no cost to the Department or the citizens of Los Angeles County.  Celebrity Jay Leno was in attendance and donated a private tour of his famous garage of collectible vehicles as a raffle prize.  Also present were prior rescued citizens who during the event provided personal stories of their heroic rescue and survival.

MSAR members are Reserve Deputies and volunteers who are highly trained to perform technical rescues, and to provide on-scene emergency medical treatment.  Last year, the MSAR responded to 90 calls for service and the members performed numerous lifesaving rescues.  This year the MSAR Team has already responded to over 100 rescue calls exceeding last year’s total rescues.
