Press Release: City of Alameda Fire Chief Doug Long retiring

Fire Chief Doug Long will be retiring from his position, effective Friday, September 22, after a long and successful career with the Alameda Fire Department.

Chief Long was hired June 16, 1988 and progressed through the AFD officer ranks, being promoted to Lieutenant in 1997, Captain in 1999, Division Chief in 2011, Deputy Chief in 2014 and Fire Chief in 2015.

Being born and raised in Alameda, Chief Long was well-connected with the community and its unique needs.  He most recently reinstated the AFD Fire Prevention Bureau earlier this year.

IAFF Local 689 President, Captain Jeff DelBono, said, “Chief Long provided solid leadership for our department throughout his career, and especially as Fire Chief.  His knowledge of our community was equally as strong and was key in keeping our department in line with the needs of Alameda.  I greatly appreciate how well he has lead our department.”

On behalf of the Alameda Fire Department members, we wish Chief Long a long and happy retirement.
