Press Release: Structure fire, 2500 block of Central Av, Alameda

Yesterday, at 12:12 am, Alameda Fire responded to an apartment structure fire on the 2500 block of Central Avenue.  Arriving crews found fire and smoke showing from a first story apartment, extending to the unit above. 

Firefighters assisted occupants from the building while others pulled pre-connected hose lines and began attacking the fire.  The fire was extinguished in 20 minutes, confined to the two units.

Fire damage was limited to the kitchen and living room with significant heat and smoke damage throughout the first floor apartment.  There was fire, heat and smoke damage to the above unit as well.  

There were four occupants treated for non-life threatening injuries.  All declined transport by ambulance.  There were no injuries to firefighters.  A total of 26 firefighters responded.

The cause was determined to be accidental, originating from unattended food cooking on top of the stove.

Alameda Red Cross responded to assist seven displaced tenants from the two damaged units. 

Oakland Fire covered in at vacant Alameda fire stations.  Other assisting agencies were Alameda Police, Alameda Municipal Power, Alameda Building Department and P.G. & E.
