September is National Preparedness Month, “Disasters Don’t Plan Ahead. You Can.” Tips to help you prepare!

As part of National Preparedness Month, the South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management is sending out weekly preparedness plans and links. This week’s plans focus on being able to “Practice and Build Out Your Plans”.

New Jersey Office of Emergency Management offers the following recommendations and links to help you better prepare.

  • What important documents should you have in your emergency kit? The Emergency Financial First Aid Kit explains them all: https://www.ready.gov/make-a-plan
  • How will you pay your bills if a disaster strikes? Disasters don’t plan ahead, you can: www.ready.gov/financial-preparedness
  • Make digital copies of important documents and save them on the cloud or a secure cell phone app in case disaster strikes.
  • Have at least a one-week supply of medications.
  • Flood insurance policies have a 30-day waiting period before they go into effect. Plan now for floods: www.floodsmart.gov
  • Give yourself financial peace of mind and create an emergency savings account that can be used in a crisis.
  • Financial prep tip: gather and store critical personal, household, and medical information for easy access during a disaster.
Take the time this week to make a plan for a disaster.  Additional preparedness tips will be sent out next week.  #Natlprep #PlanAhead
