***UPDATE** Missing Person - San Marcos

Sheriff’s Search and Rescue efforts have been suspended for a missing person in San Marcos after the body of a man was found.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine if the body is that of 62-year-old Sam Sangeae Kim. The M.E.’s Office will also determine cause and manner of death. The M.E.’s Media Line is (858) 694-2895.

Mr. Kim was reported missing around 4:00 p.m. yesterday (September 8th) by his family. He was last seen around 10:00 a.m. at a senior living center located in the 600 block of Woodward Street.

The Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SAR) Unit was activated. SAR volunteers and deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station looked for Mr. Kim until 2:00 a.m. the next day. SAR resumed the search at 5:45 this morning. Just before 10:30 a.m., a SAR volunteer searching a dirt trail along the 1000 block of N. Twin Oaks Valley Road found a body matching the description and clothing of the missing person.

We thank the public for looking out for Mr. Kim, as well as our Search and Rescue volunteers. The Sheriff's Search and Rescue (SAR) is an all-volunteer unit. Together, they perform wilderness and urban rescues, as well as search for missing and at-risk persons. Teams are available 24 hours per day to respond to local, state and federal agency requests.

The Sheriff's Department wants your help in locating a missing man from San Marcos.

62-year-old Sam Sangeae Kim was reported missing around 4:00 p.m. today (September 8th) by his family. He was last seen around 10:00 a.m. at a senior living center located in the 600 block of Woodward Street.

Kim is a Korean man standing around 5'4" tall, weighing 110 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a tan polo shirt and light knee length shorts. Kim left behind his car and phone and is believed to be on foot.
