Hurricane Irma Update #11

**HURRICANE IRMA UPDATE # 11**

At 5:00PM, Hurricane Irma was roughly 120 miles southeast of Key West moving West-Northwest at 9 MPH, with maximum sustained winds of 125 MPH. Irma is expected to strengthen over the next 24 hours as she approaches the warmer waters of the Florida Straits.

Peak winds of 55-75 MPH with gusts to 95 MPH are possible at the height of the storm Monday morning. The most likely arrival time of Tropical Storm force winds will be tomorrow evening.

A Hurricane Warning remains in effect until further notice. A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect, as current forecasts predict 8-12 inches of rain. Because Alachua County is on the eastern side of Irma's center, there is an elevated risk of tornadoes.

A MANDATORY Evacuation is in effect for residents of mobile homes, RV's or who reside in flood-prone areas. High Springs Community School is now available as a shelter, but only as a last resort. Those who evacuate should seek shelter with friends of family members first.

A complete list of countywide shelters are below.
