Forecasted Impact on Clayton County by Hurricane Irma. Click link below. Sheriff Victor Hill
This is an update on the status of Hurricane Irma and the forecasted impacts relevant to Clayton County and its cities. Although Irma has lost its Category 4 status, it is expected to regain the classification once it reaches the Gulf side of Florida. Being that the storm is expected to travel north and northwest, counties such as Clayton will be exposed to the worst side of Irma. Here are some of the potential impacts moving forward:
· Strong and heavy winds (gusts up to 50mph or stronger)
· Storms
· Flooding (3-5 inches of rain)
· Increased risk of tornadoes
The earliest reasonable arrival of tropical storm force winds is 8 am Monday morning. This timeframe may change depending on many factors. The effects will be over a two-day period. Some key points to remember:
· Power lines may come down
· Trees may fall into homes and on vehicles
· Roads may become impassable
The Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security will open the Emergency Operations Center at 0700 hours on Monday morning and will be utilizing WebEOC as the primary mode of communication. Our staff will ensure that road closures, trees down, and other hazards/significant events are reported on WebEOC.
