Sheriff Richard J Behnke reports his office investigated a two vehicle personal injury crash on 09-08-2017 at approximately 1738 hours. The crash occurred on US12 Hwy at the off ramp from Detriot Rd, Milton Twp, Cass County, Michigan.

Initial investigation shows that Robert Rodgers, 84 year old of Niles, MI was on the off ramp from Detriot Rd, where he stopped at the stop sign then turning left to head eastbound on US12. Rogers did not properly judge the distance of the second vehicle involved and both vehicles collided at that point. The second vehicle was driven by Wen-Hui Zheng, 27 year old of Niles, MI who was traveling westbound on US12.



Mr. Rodgers was transported by SMCAS for injuries to South Bend Memorial and Zheng was transported by SMCAS to Lakeland Hospital in Niles.


All parties involved were wearing seatbelts and airbags did deploy. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Niles Charter Township Fire and SMCAS.
