Community

Resources, tips and cooling center locations to help during this heat wave.

Fremont Police Personnel are carrying water today to provide community members, during these extreme heat conditions.
Several City departments, including the Fremont Police Department, have taken steps to try and assist our community during these extreme weather conditions.

During the course of their duty day, all patrol supervisors, officers, VIPS and our Patrol MET team members are carrying ice chests filled with water to provide community members they come in contact with today. Police field employees will also be handing out literature to members of our community with information about the risks of extreme heat conditions and the location of the City's cooling centers. In addition, the Tri-City Animal Shelter will be available as a cooling area for owners and their pets who may need relief from the heat during the day. The Shelter is open Friday from 12-5 and Saturday 11-4 pm.

The forecast for the next few days suggest that extreme heat will continue with today and tomorrow being the hottest days. Temperatures are projected to be lower towards the beginning of next week. As the extreme heat can cause heat exhaustion and in the most extreme cases even death it is important that special precautions are taken.

Here are a few helpful tips to Beat the Heat today:
1. Drink plenty of cool water throughout the day.
2. Keep the house as cool as possible by keeping shades closed during the hottest part of the day.
3. Wear layers of lightweight clothing
4. Enjoy cooling snacks like popsicles, and fruit.
5. Visit local cooling centers.
6. Never leave a child, family member or pet in a vehicle when outside temperatures have reached above 70 degrees.
