INCIDENT: Major Injury Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Victoria Avenue at 9th Street, Highland

Involved Party #1: German Galicia, 51 year-old resident of Highland (driver of the white Toyota Yaris)

Involved Party #2: Diego Ramirez, 41 year-old resident of Highland (driver of the grey Dodge Durango)

Passenger of Party #2: Diego Ramirez, 18 year-old resident of Highland (passenger of the Dodge Durango)


SUMMARY:

On Monday, August 28, 2017, at approximately 5:52 p.m., deputies from the Highland Police Department responded to a report of a traffic collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and 9th Street in the City of Highland. Upon deputies arrival, it was determined the collision involved a white Toyota Yaris and a grey Dodge Durango.

Diego Ramirez (41) was driving the Durango and his son, Diego Ramirez (18), was a passenger. Ramirez was traveling east on 9th Street. German Galicia was driving the Yaris. Galicia was traveling south on Victoria Avenue. Galicia was fleeing from an unrelated hit-and-run traffic collision, which had just occurred at Baseline Street and Victoria Avenue. Galicia collided with Ramirez in the intersection of Victoria Avenue and 9th Street. Both vehicles sustained major damage and were towed from the scene.

Ramirez (41) was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries, but his son did not suffer any injuries. Galicia suffered major injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to the hospital.

Members of the Sheriff's Department Region I Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the location to conduct the investigation. The intersection of Victoria Avenue and 9th Street was closed for several hours. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
