THIS IS AN UPDATE ON TROPICAL STORM HARVEY:
Hurricane Harvey, now a hurricane, has the potential to become a major category 3 hurricane before landfall. Extremely high rainfall amounts could lead to a catastrophic flood event some areas. Life threatening storm surge and winds possible as well especially down the coast toward Matagorda, Jackson and Brazoria Counties.
Brazoria County Judge Matt Sebesta has issued a MANDATORY EVACUATION for Coastal Communities along the Gulf side of the Intracoastal canal. The National Weather Service is now predicting a 6-10 foot storm surge. Please note: This evacuation is due to a 6-10 foot storm surge. Tropical force winds are expected to be 50-60 mph, concern lies with the storm surge for coastal areas at this time.
At this time there is no plan for mandatory evacuations. Additionally, there are no shelters in place within the city limits of Clute.
All citizens are asked to clean around their home, especially making sure no debris is accumulated, especially in drainage areas including ditches. During the storm please stay indoors.
