Deputies arrest three with felony warrants at a homeless encampment

SUSPECT(S): Fernando Valencia, 34 of San Bernardino

SUMMARY:
Deputies from the Highland Police Department responded to the north bank of the Santa Ana River between the 210 Freeway and Palm after receiving complaints that homeless subjects there were driving vehicles to the camps, and were possibly involved with criminal activity. They located several homeless encampments and approximately fifteen subjects. The camps were commune-like with makeshift rooms, storage, bathrooms and showers and many pets. Three of the subjects had felony warrants and were arrested. The remainder of the subjects were advised to leave the area. It was determined the land where the encampments are located is within the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management, or Redlands City.
