Castaic/Val Verde Public Safety & Crime Information: Week of July 31, 2017- August 6, 2017

Here is the Crime Information and Public Safety Report for Castaic / Val Verde (Zone 2) for the week of July 31, 2017 through August 6, 2017:

Grand Theft Auto
The victim called the station and reported her stolen vehicle was in the area of Castaic Road.  Deputies responded and located the vehicle.  The victim’s 15-year-old runaway daughter was detained at the scene.

The victim reported having his $5,000 gold necklace stolen by a male suspect. The suspect and victim met to test drive a used car that was for sale. The suspect grabbed the victim’s necklace and ripped it off of his neck. The suspect ran to a nearby waiting vehicle and drove off.

The owner was alerted by their security company of motion inside their business at 2:00 a.m.  Deputies responded and the front glass door was shattered. No suspects were inside the location. The owner said nothing was missing.

The homeowner reported a safe was stolen from their house while they were out for the evening. The residence front door was left unlocked and the master bedroom was ransacked. Only the safe was targeted. The owner reported a gold “Jesus” pendant, a gold and silver square cut diamond ring and $10,000 in US currency were inside the safe.
Remember, in any community, the citizens are the first set of eyes and ears for 1st responders.  It is the community who knows what “does” and “doesn’t” look right.  It is you, the local citizens, who can tell who “does” and “doesn’t” belong in the area.  If you see any suspicious activity, something that doesn’t look “right”, please call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at (661) 255-1121 or 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Please be aware that many of the thefts we have seen in the past have been “Crimes of Opportunity”.  Never leave valuables in plain view in your vehicle, close and lock your doors.  Minimize your risk of becoming a victim.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding Zone 2 (Castaic or Val Verde), please feel free to email or call me directly.
