Health advisory issued for Eastern Shore of BI due to Paralytic Shellfish Poison.
Shellfish harvesting closed in Liberty Bay, along the eastern shoreline of Bainbridge Island, and along the eastern shoreline of Kitsap County
Tests show high levels of marine biotoxin paralytic shellfish poison (PSP)
CLOSURE AREAS:
- Liberty Bay from Keyport to Point Bolen.
- The eastern shoreline of Bainbridge Island: from Point Monroe south to Restoration Point.
- The eastern shoreline of Kitsap County: from Point No Point south to Point Jefferson.
SPECIES AFFECTED: All recreational shellfish harvesting for all species of clams, oysters, and mussels.
Shrimp and crab are not included in this closure, but crabs should be cleaned prior to cooking, and the “crab butter” should be discarded. Shellfish harvested commercially that are available in stores and restaurants are tested for toxins prior to distribution, and are safe to eat.
