PRESS RELEASE: Motorcycle thief arrested after pursuit.
On August 3, 2017 at approximately 3:05am, a Moraga resident called the police to report that his motorcycle had just been stolen from the 300 block of Calle La Montana and was being driven away from the location. Moraga police immediately responded and an officer located the stolen motorcycle being driven on Campolindo Drive.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the suspect did not yield to the officer and fled south on Moraga Road. The suspect led officers on a pursuit before he lost control of the motorcycle on Canyon Road at Country Club Drive. The suspect fled on foot for a short distance before being taken into custody. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Shawn Ham of Antioch, was later booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of motor vehicle theft and felony evading, with additional charges pending of possession of heroin and driving on a suspended license. The victim was able to recover his motorcycle at the scene and ride it home.
The reporting party in this incident was alert to the sound of his motorcycle being started, which led to him to calling the police and ultimately to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the motorcycle. The Moraga Police Department stresses the importance of remaining alert to any suspicious behavior in the community and reporting any suspicious activity to the Moraga Police Department.
