Jeffrey Merritt made local news for hitting an elderly female in the head with a chair, pulling a gun on her, and carjacking her vehicle.

Merritt poor decision making escalated when he thought he could take refuge in Clayton County.   Today members of Sheriff Victor Hill Elite Fugitive Squad and Crime Suppression Unit surprised Merritt today when they surrounded a apartment on Mt. Zion Rd that he was in.  Merritt wisely did not pick up a chair or a gun when Deputies took him into custody.  

Because the crime occurred in Gwinnett County, Merritt escaped facing the wall at Georgia's toughest para-military jail.   However, he has been shipped out of Clayton County to Gwinnett and told never to return if he is ever released from prison.
