* Until 830 AM CDT Thursday

* At 133 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Areas just north of downtown
Kansas City saw close to 6 inches of rain from a previous round of
storms. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible
through the night. Flash flooding is occurring or expected to
begin shortly. This warning replaces the flash flood warning that
was already in effect for this area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Kansas City, Independence, Lee`s Summit, Blue Springs, Leavenworth,
Liberty, Gladstone, Grain Valley, Lansing, Excelsior Springs,
Smithville, Kearney, Oak Grove, Parkville, Platte City, North
Kansas City, Sugar Creek, Buckner, Riverside and Weatherby Lake.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 70 in Missouri between mile markers 0 and 29.
Interstate 70 in Kansas between mile markers 422 and 423.
Interstate 35 in Missouri between mile markers 2 and 26.
Interstate 29 between mile markers 0 and 27.
Interstate 635 between mile markers 5 and 12.
Interstate 470 between mile markers 15 and 16.
Interstate 435 between mile markers 15 and 62

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
