La Mesa Detectives Arrest Three Suspects for Murder
On July 20, 2017, at approximately 6:47 pm, the La Mesa Police Department received a 9-1-1 call regarding a verbal altercation in the parking lot of Burlington Coat Factory located at 7938 El Cajon Boulevard in the City of La Mesa. The caller stated during the altercation, they heard a gunshot and then watched as a male victim fell down in the parking lot. A witness stated they saw two people run from the scene, who were described as an adult male and an adult female. It was determined the male victim, Travis Lewis (30 years old), had been in an altercation with the male and female. During the altercation, Lewis was shot and later died at the scene.
During the investigation, La Mesa Police Detectives learned Lewis had actually been shot during a robbery. Detectives identified three suspects involved in the robbery / homicide.
On July 25, 2017, at approximately 12:00 pm, La Mesa Police Detectives working with San Diego Police Detectives, arrested Kathryn Williams (24 years old) from San Diego and Teishia Miller-Johnson (32 years old) from San Diego for 187(a) PC – Murder.
Later in the day, at approximately 7:09 pm, Derrick Henderson (30 years old), who detectives believe was the shooter in the homicide, was arrested for 187(a) PC after a confrontation and a brief foot pursuit in the City of San Diego. During the initial confrontation, a La Mesa Police Detective shot at Henderson, who then fled, but was taken into custody a short distance away. No one was injured during the shooting. No Further details are available regarding the shooting at this time. Per County protocol, San Diego Police Department Homicide is investigating the officer involved shooting.
