Advisory

Heat Advisory in effect from noon to 7 p.m. today, heat index between 100-105

A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. today as temperatures rise into the mid to upper 90s with heat index values between 100 to 105 degrees.

The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.

The Office of Emergency Management advises residents that the North Brunswick Library (880 Hermann Road) and the North Brunswick Senior Center (15 Linwood Place) have been designated as cooling centers. The hours for the Library are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Senior Center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Here are some tips from the National Weather Service to beat the heat:

Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions...if you work or spend time outside. When possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency...call 9-1-1.
