On July 17, 2017, at 10:50 p.m. Deputy Ben Kiesel conducted a traffic stop on a White 2017 Ford F150 at the Pilot Truck Stop located at the intersection of US 41 and County Road 1250 South after Gibson County Central Dispatch had received several complaints of the driver’s erratic driving. Upon approaching the driver Deputy Ben Kiesel identified the driver as 71 year old Jon Koenig of Gray Court, South Carolina. While speaking with the driver Deputy Kiesel believed that Mr. Koenig might be impaired on an unknown intoxicant. At that point a road side DUI investigation was conducted that resulted in Mr. Koenig being placed into custody and transported to the Gibson County Jail. At the Gibson County Jail Mr. Koenig was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated / Controlled Substance. Mr. Koenig has since posted a $1300 bond.

Assisting Deputy Kiesel in his investigation were officers from the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Branch Police Department, and Haubstadt Police Department.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
