INCIDENT: PC 459; Burglary/PC530.5; Identity Theft/PC32; Conspiracy

LOCATION: Base Line Street/ Seine Avenue, Highland

SUSPECT: Anthony Chavez, 23 years old, resident of Highland

SUMMARY:

On July 5, 2017, deputies responded to a vehicle burglary which occurred in the City of Highland. The victim discovered his vehicle had been burglarized and his wallet was stolen. Before the victim could close out his credit cards, the suspects had already used his ATM card to make fraudulent purchases at businesses in the City of Redlands. Through investigation, two suspects were seen using the victim’s ATM card and a vehicle was identified as the suspect’s get a way car.

On July 12, 2017, deputies located the suspect’s vehicle in the area of Base Line Street and Seine Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, later identified as Anthony Chavez, was determined to be involved in the crime. Merchandise purchased with the stolen ATM card was located in the vehicle and recovered. Detectives conducted a follow up investigation at Chavez' residence and discovered more stolen property and evidence of other crimes.

Chavez is a convicted felon and is currently on Felony Probation. Chavez was booked into the Central Detention Center for Burglary, Conspiracy, Identity theft and probation violation. Chavez is being held without bail. A second suspect is still outstanding.
