On 7-12-17, a Camarillo deputy observed a theft in progress at the CVS Pharmacy on Carmen Drive, which lead to the arrest of two men and the recovery of two stolen automobiles. At approximately 9:30 a.m., on 7/12/2017, a Camarillo deputy was working near the CVS Pharmacy on Carmen Drive, when he observed what he believed to be a theft in progress. The deputy observed an adult male carrying a cardboard box and hurrying out the door of the CVS Pharmacy. The deputy followed the subject and was notified by CVS employees that a theft of electronics had just occurred. The subject entered a parked vehicle and, as the deputy approached the vehicle, he spotted a second subject inside the vehicle. When the subjects saw the deputy approaching, they both fled the vehicle on foot in opposite directions. The vehicle the subjects fled from was later determined to have been reported stolen out of Santa Barbara County Additional deputies responded to the scene to assist with a search for the subjects. Deputies were able to catch the driver of the vehicle (Demetrio Gutierrez) near the Camarillo Premium Outlets and take him into custody without incident. The second suspect is still outstanding. As this incident unfolded, deputies obtained information about the location of a second stolen vehicle that was possibly in the Moorpark area. The vehicle in the Moorpark area had reportedly been stolen out of Camarillo earlier that morning. Deputies from the Moorpark Police Department spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it; however, the driver refused to stop. A short vehicle pursuit (1/2 mile) took place before the vehicle ran out of gasoline. The driver (Edgar Duran) was taken into custody without further incident and the vehicle was recovered. |
