The Newark Police Departments Fall Citizen Police Academy is open for enrolment and filling fast. Our philosophy of Community Oriented Policing in the City of Newark is producing many positive results. One of the most important outcomes is an increased awareness of the importance of an effective police – community partnership that includes open and honest communication. One of the goals of the Citizen Police Academy is to facilitate this partnership and to improve communication by developing a better understanding of each other’s role in the community.

Your participation in the Citizen Police Academy will not only be a positive learning experience for you, but it will also give us the opportunity to listen to your concerns and ideas. During the Academy, you will be exposed to many aspects of your police department and you will learn about the laws, procedures and policies that govern law enforcement. Our hope is that this course curriculum, coupled with the experiences of the students, will lead to lively and informative discussions about issues facing the City of Newark.


The upcoming 2017 Fall Citizen Police Academy will be an eleven week course. Classes will meet on Wednesday evenings August 16, 2017 through October 25, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
