On July 10, 2017, at 6:18 PM officers responded to 893 Marsh for a robbery of a person inside of the post office. Suspect CAPLES approached the victim who was retrieving mail from a post office box. He demanded the victim’s wallet several times, and the victim refused. Suspect CAPLES knocked the victim to the ground and rummaged through the mail in the open mailbox. The suspect left the scene on foot with some of the victim’s mail. A witness followed suspect CAPLES and recovered the mail which was returned to the victim. Another witness followed suspect CAPLES and directed officers to his location. Suspect Caples was detained a short distance away on Morro Street. He was positively identified as the suspect by the victim and was arrested for robbery.

We want to thank the members of the community who provided aid to the victim and followed the suspect at a safe distance until Officers arrived. The quick apprehension of suspect CAPLES demonstrates the effectiveness of Law Enforcement and the Community working together to keep San Luis Obispo safe. The victim had injuries but declined medical attention at the scene.

Suspect CAPLES was booked into county jail for robbery and is being held on $30,000 bail.
