Lomita Deputies respond to swimmer in distress along RPV coastline Sunday afternoon.

Today at approximately 11:50am, Lomita Station received 9-1-1 calls regarding a swimmer in distress along the coastline near Hawthorne Boulevard and Calle Entradero in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Emergency services were immediately dispatched. Upon arriving, deputies negotiated the steep terrain to get to the coastline where the swimmer's friend had pulled him from the water and citizens were performing CPR. Deputies took over CPR until personnel from Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived. Deputies and firefighters continued performing CPR until the swimmer was able to be retrieved from the rocky coastline by a helicopter from LA County Fire and transported to a local hospital.

Despite 40 minutes of CPR from citizens, deputies, and firefighters, the swimmer succumbed to his injuries.

Special thank you to personnel from Los Angeles County Fire Department, Lifeguard Division and Marina Del Rey Sheriff's Station for providing assistance and resources from the ocean side.
