It’s finally summer!
Southern California has had a great run of weather this year. We have had a lot of rain and beautiful California spring days. Within the last week Mother Nature has turned up her thermometer and is baking So. Cal with several 95+ days. Every year countless numbers of people place their family pets in danger by leaving them in their cars. Sadly hundreds of these animals do not make it home. On a seemingly cool day of 70 degrees the temperature can jump to 89 degrees in 10 minutes, but with our recent 95 degree day in 10 minutes it is well over 100 inside that car. There’s no better time than the present to send out a reminder that Assembly Bill 797, known as “Right to Rescue Act,” will allow citizens to smash windows and break into a vehicle to save an animals life as long as the following conditions are met. The conditions are as follows:
Check to make sure that the car isn’t unlocked and can’t be opened without force.
It appears that the animal is in distress or is suffering from heat related symptoms.
You have called the Sheriff’s Department and provided them with the address of where the car is parked. Don’t forget to get the make, model, color, and license number of the car.
Stay with the animal and car until Deputies arrive.
Make sure to familiarize yourself with these conditions and be ready to act in case you see an animal distress.
