Narrative: On July 05, 2017, at approximately 11:30 a.m., deputies from the Moorpark Police and Sheriff’s Station responded to the 14000 block of Peach Hill Road in the City of Moorpark for an unknown disturbance call. Upon their arrival, deputies met with personnel from the Ventura County Fire Department who were treating a 59-year-old female who was the victim of an apparent assault. Deputies learned the suspect of the assault was still in the area and contacted him a few moments later in front of the victim’s home. The suspect, identified as Abel DeJesus Monroy, was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives from the Moorpark Station, East County Major Crimes Unit, and the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. During the course of their investigation, detectives learned the victim hired Monroy as a laborer. Monroy attempted to attack a coworker at the location and killed the victim’s dog before he assaulted the victim. Detectives determined the victim was assaulted with a large gardening tool and sustained serious injuries. The victim is being treated at an area hospital and the motive for the assault is still under investigation.

Monroy was booked into custody on two counts of attempted murder and one count each of animal cruelty and burglary. He is currently in custody on $1,000,000 bail and due in court on Friday, July 7, 2017.
