DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 9:11 pm
INCIDENT: Felony Evading, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Grand Theft Auto
LOCATION: Baseline at the 210 Freeway, Highland
SUSPECT(S): Jason William Beach 35 years old, resident of Desert Hot Springs
SUMMARY: On July 1, 2017, Highland deputies received information of a stolen vehicle that was spotted at numerous locations throughout the city. At about 9:11 pm, deputies located the vehicle, occupied by a male driver, in the parking lot of the 76 gas station at Baseline and the 210 Freeway. Three deputies arrived and pinned the vehicle into a parking stall. The suspect, later identified as Jason Beach, accelerated towards the deputies vehicles, drove over a landscaped divider, and managed to enter the 210 Freeway. The suspect continued westbound on the 210 at high speeds as the deputies attempted to stop him. In Redlands, the suspect transitioned to the eastbound 10 where he continued for nearly 70 miles. Beach failed to yield to police vehicles, and drove without regard for the safety of the public.
Near Banning, Aviation and the California Highway Patrol assisted and took the lead in the pursuit that continued into Indio. A Highland deputy trailed to the termination point at 42nd and Glass Road, where the driver crashed into a wall. Beach was not injured, and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported back to San Bernardino County where he was booked at Central Detention Center for Felony Evading, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and Grand Theft Auto. Beach was also booked for several warrants, including a No Bail Parole hold. He is also a Registered Sex Offender who is out of compliance with registration requirements.
Beach is currently on AB109 PRCS Felony Probation Dangerous Drugs. As a part of Governor Jerry Brown’s Realignment Plan, or Assembly Bill 109, to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court decision requiring the state to lower its prison population by 30,000; offenders with non-violent, non-sexual and non-serious convictions will serve reduced sentences in county jails and be placed on local supervision through county Probation.
