Severe thunderstorms possible this evening between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. with heavy rain and strong winds

The North Brunswick Office of Emergency Management advises residents of possible severe thunderstorms later this evening. While an isolated shower or storm cannot be ruled out this afternoon, the main severe threat really gets going after 6 p.m.

While these storms are still scattered, they have a better chance to be severe through this evening producing possible dime-quarter size hail and damaging wind gusts of 45-60mph+ (these storms may have the potential for 1"/hr+ rain rates leading to poor drainage and roadway flooding). The storms will also feature occasional to frequent lightning. The "severe" threat wanes toward 11 p.m.

There may be a break at this point into part of the overnight before the main cold front approaches and brings a round of rain with locally heavy downpours between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m.
