Excessive Heat Warning for Thursday
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Thursday. Although the forecasts are always subject to change, tomorrow's high temperatures are expected to be in the low 100's. These temperatures and accompanying low humidity also mean an increased fire danger for our area.
Please make sure that everyone avoids overheating and drinks plenty of water or fluids. Outside activities should be restricted in the afternoon hours. Those seeking to escape the heat should consider a visit to the library or other location with air conditioning.
Consider the following this summer to stay safe from the heat:
* Do not leave pets or kids in unattended vehicles - when it is 80 degrees outside, the temperatures inside the car can rise to over 113 degrees within 30 minutes.
* Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
* Watch out for hot pavement when walking pets - it can burn their pads. Plenty of water for them too!
* Drink plenty of fluids and stay in air conditioned areas.
* Have a plan in case of power outages - keep refrigerators and freezers closed to retain cold temps and keep food safe.
* If you are swimming, please ensure that everyone is practicing good water safety. If someone cannot swim, they should use a life preserver while in the water.
* No fireworks - all are illegal in Contra Costa County.
Please stay cool and hydrated during this hot weather and BE SAFE!
