6/10 – 12:44 a.m. – Millstadt Police, Millstadt Fire Department, & Millstadt EMS responded to a traffic crash, at 201 North Jefferson Avenue. A pickup truck, travelling southbound on North Jefferson Avenue, went off the right side of the roadway, clipped a telephone pole, then struck the northside of the residence. A witness observed the incident. The truck was occupied only by the driver of the vehicle. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle, and was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. The driver, Francis B. Gregson age 62 of rural New Athens, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The residence suffered significant damage, including the rupturing of the gas line. No one was inside the residence at the time of the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
