Nature of Incident: Weather Advisory from the Ojai Police Department Location: City of Ojai, Ojai Valley
Date & Time: 06/16/2017 - 06/21/2017
Unit(s) Responsible: Ojai Police Department
Narrative: An extended period of very hot temperatures is expected across the interior portions of southwest California this weekend through the middle of next week. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a HEAT ADVISORY in effect from 11:00 AM on Monday, June 19th to 9:00 PM Wednesday, June 21st.
Temperatures are forecasted to climb 12 to 18 degrees above normal in many parts of interior southwest California this weekend through the middle of next week. Temperatures in Ojai Valley are expected to reach 88-92+ on these days. During nighttime hours, the temperature will only go down to the low 70s.
Remember: Never, ever, leave people or pets in enclosed vehicles, even for a short period of time. Temperatures inside vehicles, even if the windows are partially open, can quickly rise to life-threatening levels. Very high outdoor temperatures can create dangerous situations in which heat related illnesses are possible. Take extra precautions, such as drinking plenty of water, if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening after sunset. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. The high temperature also raises the risk of wildfires in the Ojai Valley. A 2 ¼ acre brushfire in the area of Del Oro Drive was quickly contained by the Ventura County Fire Department on 06/16/2017. High temperatures and low humidity levels raises the fire risk in drier vegetated areas. Please refrain from any action that could start a fire.
The Help of Ojai will be conducting hydration stations at “The Little House” located at 111 W. Santa Ana Street in Ojai. The station will be set up from 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Saturday (06/17/2017) and Sunday (06/18/2017).
