On June 26, 2017 the Department of Transportation will begin a congestion relief project on Route 1 known as “Hard Shoulder Running”. Between Ridge Road and Raymond Road (both North and South) the shoulder will be available for use as a travel lane Monday through Friday from 6:00am to 9:00am and again from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Drivers are encouraged to exercise due caution when utilizing the shoulder as a travel lane. Pedestrians and cyclists must also note that during the Hard Shoulder Running hours, the shoulder will be in full use as a lane of travel. For this reason they should plan alternate routes.
