MEDIA ADVISORY: Multi-Agency News Conference To Kick Off The 2017 "Pink Patch Project"

MEDIA ADVISORY For Thursday, June 15th at 10:00 A.M.

Multi-Agency News Conference to Kick-Off the 2017 “Pink Patch Project”

WHEN: Thursday, June 15, 2017, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
WHERE: Quiet Cannon Event Center 901 Via San Clemente
Montebello, CA

On Thursday, June 15th, the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs' Association (LACPCA), along with many other public safety agencies, will kick-off the 2017 “Pink Patch Project”, an innovative campaign designed to increase public awareness about breast cancer and to raise funds for the fight against the disease. The Pink Patch Project is a collaborative effort between the LACPCA and over 110 public safety
agencies throughout the United States. The program centers on vibrant pink versions of the agency’s uniform patches. Officers from the participating agencies will be wearing these pink patches on their uniforms during “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” this October. The pink patches are intended to stimulate conversation within the community and to encourage public awareness about early detection and treatment in the fight against this disease. As part of this program, participating agencies are selling their commemorative pink patches to the community, along with Pink Patch Project T-shirts, challenge coins and other items. Proceeds from the sale of these commemorative items will go to fund breast cancer education,
research, and treatment. In 2016, the program raised in excess of $320,000.00 for cancer research organizations nationwide and we hope to significantly increase that amount in 2017.

The media is invited to our press conference Thursday morning as we announce this year’s campaign to the community. Speakers will include public safety dignitaries, City of Hope representatives and cancer survivors. Media Interview, Photograph and/or Videos Opportunities: Media interviews with public safety officers, Chiefs of Police and department heads from various participating agencies will be available. Officers will also be wearing pink patches on their uniforms and pink patches and other items from participating departments will be available for photos/videos.
