The Malverne Police Department is investigating the possibility that a solicitor is using the Departments 599-3141 telephone number for the purpose of "ghosting". This means that a solicitor has plugged in this number as the caller i.D. to make it appear that the caller is a local caller and therefore hoping the recipient will answer the phone. The calls began early this morning June 9,2017 and are continuing through the day. The Malverne Police Department and Verizon are investigating these incidents. While it does not appear that there is any criminality involved all residents are warned to be alert to any suspicious calls and to report them to the Malverne Police Department.
