The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

June 5th

0730 Hours: Officers responded to a disturbance on the 37000 block of Elm Street where they contacted and arrested a 22 year old San Francisco male for battery. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1745 Hours: Officer Hogan investigated a stolen white over black 1995 GMC Sierra Pickup (CA license #5E23085) on the 8100 block of Merion Drive.

2020 Hours: Officer Smith responded to a call of a suspicious person looking into vehicles on Thornton Avenue. Officer Smith contacted a 30 year old transient male who fit the suspect description that was found to have two outstanding warrants. The suspect was arrested and booked into the Fremont Jail.

2030 Hours: A citizen called to report a male subject was trying to force entry into one of the display storage sheds in front of the Home Depot, 5401 Thornton Avenue. Officer Mavrakis arrived on scene and observed a 46 year old transient male trying to pry a door open with a meat cleaver and a butcher knife. The suspect was detained and placed under Citizen’s Arrest for vandalism and subsequently booked into the Fremont Jail.

2211 Hours: Officer Geser investigated an auto burglary on the 6000 block of Breton Place. The loss is unknown at this time.
