The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

June 1st
0527 Hours: Officer Johnson recovered a 1996 Honda Civic reported stolen out of San Jose on the 37200 block of Elm Street.

0944 Hours: Sergeant Eriksen contacted and arrested a 29 year old Newark female for possessing drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

0958 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 31 year old Newark male for possessing drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1933 Hours: Officer Herbert investigated a vandalism case on the 37800 block of Birch Street. There are no suspects at this time.

2318 Hours: Officers responded to Yew Court on a report of a hit and run accident. Officer Mapes arrested a 23 year old Hayward female for hit and run on two vehicles and for driving under the influence. The suspect was issued a citation and released to a sober acquaintance.

0012 Hours: Community Service Officer Parks recovered a 1995 Honda Accord on the 36200 block of Cedar Boulevard that was reported stolen in Newark on May 21st. The vehicle was released to the registered owner.

June 2nd

0755 Hours: Officer Rivas responded to a disturbance on the 5800 block of Wintergreen Drive. Officer Rivas subsequently arrested a 59 year old Newark male for battery. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1039 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 41 year old transient male for possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1154 Hours: The CHP requested assistance from Fremont and Newark Police Departments after subjects fled from a vehicle following a pursuit. The suspects fled from Highway 880, near the Central Boulevard overcrossing and were seen running onto the area of Civic Terrace and Greenpoint Street. A perimeter was established and eventually a 33 year old male and a 19 year old female, both from Hayward were apprehended and taken into custody by the CHP.

1612 Hours: Officer Knutson contacted and arrested a 50 year old transient male and a 34 year old transient male on the 7300 block of Thornton Avenue for public intoxication. Both subjects were booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2302 Hours: Officers Jackman and Pacheco contacted and arrested a 51 year old transient female for possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

2346 Hours: Officers Jackman and Pacheco contacted and arrested a 50 year old Newark female for possession of drug paraphernalia on the 5400 block of Central Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

June 3rd

0644 Hours: Officers responded to a stolen vehicle sighting at the Chevron Gas Station on Thornton Avenue and Cedar Boulevard. A friend of the registered owner of the stolen vehicle confronted the suspect who then ran away onto Civic Terrace. Officers flooded the area and were not able to locate the suspect. Approximately 15 minutes after the search was called off Police Dispatchers received calls that the suspect was seen jumping fences in the area. The suspect was located on Cedar Boulevard and detained. After being positively identified as the driver of the stolen vehicle the suspect was arrested and booked into the Santa Rita Jail. Thank you to the Fremont Police department for their assistance in the search.

0719 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated an auto burglary on the 7500 block of Wells Avenue. The loss was miscellaneous tools.

1150 Hours: Officer Hogan contacted and arrested a 44 year old Newark male for his outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1352 Hours: Officer Horst investigated an auto burglary on the 37100 block of Sycamore Street. The loss is a jacket and keys.

1446 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a storage unit burglary at Public Storage, 35360 Fircrest Street. The loss is shoes, electronics and clothing.

1618 Hours: Officer Taylor contacted and arrested a 27 year old Newark female on Mowry Avenue at Alpine Drive for her outstanding warrant. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

2126 Hours: Community Service Officer Parks investigated an auto burglary at Ray’s Sushi, 3100 Newpark Mall. The loss is a laptop and a purse.

0036 Hours: Sergeant Simon contacted and arrested a 22 year old Fremont male for possession of drug paraphernalia behind the Viola Blythe Center, 37365 Ash Street. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

0207 Hours: Officer Khairy contacted and arrested a 22 year old Fremont male for driving under the influence on Central Avenue at Timber Street. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

June 4th

0603 Hours: Officer Wang investigated an auto burglary on the 5100 block of Elmwood Street. The loss is miscellaneous tools.

0855 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated an auto burglary on the 36400 block of Charles Street. The loss is miscellaneous tools.

0925 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated an auto burglary on the 36700 block of Port Tidewood Street. The loss is miscellaneous tools.

1024 Hours: Officer Nobbe investigated a stolen red 1997 Honda Civic (CA License #4GRC782) on the 36000 block of Cherry Street.

1655 Hours: Officers Mavrakis and Taylor contacted and arrested a 58 year old San Leandro male for possession of a controlled substance on the 5800 block of Jarvis Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

2039 Hours: Officers Khairy and Mavrakis responded to Taco Bell, 5684 Thornton Avenue for a reported drunk driver. The Officers contacted and arrested a 27 year old Newark male for driving under the influence. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2218 Hours: Officers responded to a burglar alarm at Haller’s Pharmacy, 6170 Thornton Avenue. The investigation is ongoing.
