Yesterday, at 6:19 pm, Alameda Fire responded to an apartment structure fire on the 500 block of Pacific Avenue.  Arriving crews found smoke showing from a second story apartment.  Firefighters forced entry to the apartment, pulled pre-connected hose lines and quickly extinguished the fire, confining it to one unit.

Fire damage was limited to the kitchen and living room, with significant heat and smoke damage throughout the apartment.  There was minor damage to an adjacent unit, and another on the first floor, due to firefighting efforts.

There were no injuries.  A total of 18 firefighters responded.

The cause was determined to be accidental, originating from on top of the stove.

Alameda Red Cross responded to assist the displaced tenants.  Other assisting agencies were Alameda Police, Alameda Municipal Power, Alameda Building Department and P.G. & E.
