Nature of Incident: Donation to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Foundation Location: Countywide Date & Time: June 1, 2017 Unit(s) Responsible: Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Narrative: The Ventura County Sheriff’s Foundation has received a generous financial donation from the Dr. Richard Grossman Community Foundation to establish a scholarship fund for the children of Ventura County Sheriff’s Office employees. Sheriff Geoff Dean, Sheriff’s Foundation president Doug Platts and other board members accepted the $750,000 donation from Elizabeth Rice Grossman, the widow of the late Dr. Richard Grossman, on behalf of the foundation. “We are extremely grateful for the generosity and community spirit of Mrs. Grossman and the foundation.” Sheriff Dean said. “These scholarships will have a great impact on the future lives of the children of our Sheriff’s Office employees.” Dr. Richard Grossman was an internationally recognized plastic surgeon who pioneered the comprehensive treatment of burn victims. Dr. Grossman’s greatest passion was his focus on restoring the lives of burn survivors. Dr. Grossman’s was also an active volunteer with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office for many years. Elizabeth Rice Grossman has continued his commitment to work with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office through the Dr. Richard Grossman Community Foundation by establishing this scholarship fund. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Foundation is a non-profit organization that was established to promote civic spirit in support of law enforcement and enhance the ability of Sheriff’s Office employees to work even more safely and effectively.
